Why does it work? The active ingredient works in two (2) ways. First, Bird-Off Gel makes pigeons leave 
as a result of physical contact with the gel laced with white pepper causing the skin to become
extremely hot and uncomfortable. Pigeons/Birds do not like the physical exposure to the styptic
sensation of geranium and the 'Hot" sensation of white pepper.  Bird-OFF helps train
pigeons/birds to go elsewhere. 

Second, the odor given off from geranium oil is a very pungent astringent smell to pigeons/birds. 
the tacky gel on the bird’s 'HEATS' up the birds feet, beak, eyes and skin preventing pigeons from returning.  
Do not confuse Bird-Off Gel with other polybutene adhesive gels like Hot Foot, Bird B Gone, Nexalite, Tangle Foot,
and Bird-X that use  "Polybutene" - which turns black, collects feathers, bird dander and dirt/dust as well as
being a pollutant – Polybutene will build up with each application and becomes a maintenance nightmare to take off,

What Is Polybutene?
The liquid is clear and colourless, and is sold in many different grades. The grades are determined mainly by
molecular weight, the higher grades showing increasing viscosity.

It is used as an additive for engine oils and greases, and as an extender in putty used for sealing roofs
and windows.  In hydrogenated form, it is also used in a wide variety of cosmetic preparations,
such as lipstick. Used in adhesives owing to its tackiness.  

Polybutene Applications & Cost Effectiveness: 

Bird Gels made with Polybutene are by far an extremely inexpensive solution. Polybutene based bird gels
contain no active ingredients, do not last long and will cause surface areas to become ugly black.
The polybutene used in most of these gels are roof grade adhesive and trap bird dander, leaves, debris, 
polybutene ineffective.  Polybutenes are suseptible to heat oxidation, running and water that can cause
water run pollution. Bird gels made with polybutene recommend re-application every 3-6 months;
hardly economical considering the re-work time for maintenance to take the polybutene off, seal
surface and reapply, not to mention the cost getting to hard to reach areas.  

Why not pay more for something that works and lasts much long ....like up to 2-3 years
like Bird-OFF?  Is cheap really cheap in the long run?
                                                          
Don't Be Fooled - Bird -OFF Clear Gel is the only truely "ORGANIC" bird repellent !   

There are Bird Caulking Gels made with an ingredient called capsaicin that is regulated by the EPA.
It cannot be sold in stores or the internet and intended for use by licensed pesticide companies when 
which use will occur.  A licensed pesticide company can only use this product. Using, re-selling or distributing this types of product without a pesticide license is illegal. For better use and effectiveness without use of toxins use
organic Bird-OFF Clear Gel.                                                

Bird Caulking Gels use capsaicin from peppers which causes the active molecules to vary in 
effectiveness due to regional soil, water and temperature climates - making the effectiveness of
these knock-off products inconsistent.  

Capsiacin in general cannot be used over water and is for "terrestrial use only"  Why?  Because the
effects of capsaicin "maybe toxic" to acquatic organisms and will contaiminate the water sources"
